Southampton University Conservative Association (SUCA) has a long and distinguished history. The society has produced many members who have reached electoral success in local and national elections. Many other members have used the society as a successful platform to launch their career into professional media or other fields of professional politics.
While the members and leadership of the society may change over time, the central focus and cause of the society stays constant. At a core level, the society aims to provide a stimulating environment that welcomes anyone who is politically supportive of the UK Conservative Party. As with the central party, we are a broad-church in terms of our members’ political beliefs. Our members’ views stretch from staunch Thatcherism to moderate one-nation Toryism and anything in between. We are however united by the belief that the Conservative Party provides the best form of government for the United Kingdom.
As a society, we aim to provide events that will be of interest to our members. We schedule regular talks and discussions with visiting Conservative figures. The aim of these visits is to allow our members the opportunity to listen and challenge the people who drive and shape national politics. Additionally, the range of speakers allows our members the opportunity to challenge and discuss their own beliefs.
The society schedules regular socials that may be arranged in conjunction with other University political societies. The socials provide a casual way to socialise and meet new people while discussing political issues.
Our society’s Patron and President is Baroness Thatcher and we are constitutionally affiliated with Southampton Test. The society is run by the democratically elected committee which is formed following the result of the annual AGM.
